Yankees trounced by Bluejays
New York Yankees went down to a 6-0 defeat as Toronto Bluejays turned the tables on the leaders in American League East.

Roy Halladay led the way, striking out nine while tossing a brilliant one-hit shutout.

Yankees remain at the top of the division with second-placed Boston going down to an emphatic 12-2 defeat by Chicago White Sox of the Central League.

Freddy Garcia rediscovered his old form for his first win of the year, while three-RBI nights for Mark Kotsay and Alexei Ramirez gave skipper Ozzie Guillen his 500th victory as a manager.

Tampa Bay went down 4-3 to Central leaders Detroit while Baltimore were routinely beaten 5-1 thanks to a two-run double by Chris Davis and a solo by Nelson Cruz.

As a result of the Red Sox's loss, the Tigers trimmed Boston's AL Wild Card lead to two games.

Cleveland Indians vanquished Minnesota 5-2 while bottom side Kansas were edged 2-1 by West leaders Los Angeles.

The visitors went ahead but a Vladimir Guerrero two-run single gave the Angels victory.

Oakland beat Seattle 6-3.

In the National League East, leaders Philadelphia went down to a comprehensive 7-0 loss to Houston of the Central League.

Wandy Rodriguez struck out seven in seven scoreless innings and hit a two-run double as the Astros cruised home.

Hunter Pence drilled a two-run home run, while Carlos Lee hit a solo shot. Kaz Matsui added a pair of RBIs.

Florida beat Washington 9-6, John Baker getting a homer and four RBIs.

Atlanta failed to make headway in the wild card race when they went down 3-1 to Cincinnati, struggling in the Central division while New York Mets beat Chicago Cubs 6-2.

Leaders St Louis beat Pittsburgh 14-7 while Milwaukee went down 3-2 to San Francisco who remain second in the wild card race.

Colorado remained top of the wild card standings after Jason Giambi delivered a game-winning RBI in the 5-4 win over Arizona.

San Diego inflicted a 2-0 defeat on Los Angeles.
